Emporia, KS : Four people were injured in a three-vehicle accident on May, Sunday, 21st 2017

Four people were injured in a three-vehicle accident just north of Olpe early Sunday afternoon.

Haley Kingsley of Olpe, Sebastian Kuhr and Wesley Key of Emporia and Wichita-resident Dakota Hamlin were all transported to Newman Regional Health with undisclosed injuries after a chain reaction accident.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred at 1:35 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Kansas Highway 99 and Road 90 — about two miles north of Olpe. The accident began with Kingsley, 19, and Kuhr, 22, both driving northbound on Highway 99.

The Kansas Highway Patrol stated in its report that Kuhr stopped his 2000 Ford Ranger at the intersection with Road 90 in preparation for a left-hand turn. The 2007 Pontiac G6 driven by Kingsley rear-ended the pickup, causing it to enter the southbound lane in front of oncoming traffic. Kuhr's vehicle then collided with a 2011 Chevy HHR driven by Hamlin, 22.

Kuhr had one passenger, Key, 29, who was injured. Two dogs also had to be transported to the Emporia Veterinary Hospital as a result of the accident.

Following the collision, Kingsley's vehicle came to a rest facing north in the east ditch, Kuhr's was facing south in the southbound lane of Highway 99 and Hamlin's was facing west in the west ditch. All three vehicles sustained significant damage.

The extent of the injuries is unknown as Newman Regional Health does not release patient information to the media. At the time of the accident, scanner traffic indicated one of the females involved was complaining of back pain while a male patient had a laceration near his eye.

All four patients were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
