Lake City, FL : Five students injured in school bus crash on U.S. 441 in Columbia County on Monday morning, May 23, 2016

A school bus carrying 25 students was involved in a crash Monday morning in Columbia County and five students on board were injured, authorities said.

A 2004 Dodge vehicle and a school bus were traveling southbound on U.S. 441, according to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

When the school bus started slowing down to pick up a student, the driver of the Dodge failed to control her vehicle and struck the rear of the school bus, FHP said.

Five of the students on the bus were transported to the area hospitals with minor injuries.

The driver of the Dodge vehicle was cited for careless driving.
