A 19-year-old Massachusetts woman died Saturday in New Hampshire when she was struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 93, according to New Hampshire State Police.
The woman, Ashley St. Onge of Methuen, was frightened of the icy road conditions and pulled over in Windham in order to have another passenger in the car drive, authorities said. The crash occurred around 6:45 p.m.
St. Onge and the passenger she asked to drive the car, 19-year-old Nicholas Hadley of Derry, New Hampshire were both outside the Volvo when they were struck by a tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer was unable to stop because of the slippery road conditions, state police said.
St. Onge was found on an embankment along with Hadley. They were both rushed to a local hospital where St. Onge died. Hadley has life-threatening injuries, police said.
A third person in the car, 18-year-old Haley Wizboski of Methuen, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
