OAKLEY, CA : Motorcyclist flown to Muir hospital after crash on Saturday, 17th September 2016
A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries but was expected to survive after one motorcycle rear-ended another Saturday in a suspected DUI crash, authorities said.
Oakley police were investigating the crash, which happened around 10:51 p.m. in the 5700 block of Main Street, near Brownstone Road. Fire crews were responding to another nearby crash when one of them saw a motorcycle crash into the back of another one, Battalion Chief Jeff Burris said in a statement.
A medical helicopter took one of the motorcyclists to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he was expected to survive, authorities said. He suffered possible injuries to his chest and shoulder, Burris said.
One of the motorcyclists involved in the crash was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Oakley police Sgt. Robert Roberts said. It was not known immediately which motorcyclist was arrested, he said.
The earlier crash occurred at Main Street and Empire Avenue around 10:46, Roberts said. In that one, a motorcycle and small car of unspecified make and model collided, sending the motorcyclist to the hospital. The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of DUI but his identity was not immediately available. Check back for updates.
