Tacoma, WA : Driver arraigned on charges in wreck that killed 1, injured 5 on Friday, 14th October 2016
A man charged in connection with a fatal wreck in University Place was ordered held Friday in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Donivan Crews, 30, is charged with second-degree murder, vehicular homicide, five counts of vehicular assault, trying to elude police, failing to have a device in the vehicle to measure his alcohol level and driving with a suspended license.
He pleaded not guilty at arraignment, and Pierce County Court Commissioner Meagan Foley set his bail.
Prosecutors allege Crews was drunk and fled from police after an officer tried to pull him over for driving his truck with the lights off.
While fleeing, according to charging papers, Crews broadsided a vehicle carrying 28-year-old Kasanda Moffett near 27th Street West and Bridgeport Way.
She died from her injuries. Four people in the vehicle with her were seriously injured, and a passenger in Crews' vehicle was hurt.
Court records don’t yet list an attorney for Crews.
