Escondido, CA : 39-year-old woman and 9-year-old boy killed in a three-vehicle collision in Escondido Thursday, June 30, 2016
A 39-year-old woman and a 9-year-old boy were killed in a three-vehicle collision in Escondido Thursday.
Escondido police officers responded at 4:43 p.m. to the 400 block of East Washington Avenue, where a Toyota Yaris, Toyota Camry and a Chrysler 300 had been involved in a series of collisions with serious injuries, Escondido Police Department Lt. Mike Kearney said.
Paramedics took lifesaving measures on the woman and the boy before they were taken to Palomar Memorial Hospital, where they died from their injuries, Kearney said.
Investigators, citing witnesses and physical evidence, said the Yaris was attempting to turn left headed east on East Washington Avenue from a driveway when it collided with the Chrysler, which was headed west on the same street, Kearney said.
The Chrysler, which held two occupants, subsequently crashed into the Camry, Kearney said.
Both occupants of the Chrysler complained of pain, Officer Stephen Braucht told City News Service, while the driver of the Camry, which held no passengers, suffered no injuries.
It was not immediately clear which party was responsible for the collision, Braucht said.
