DERBY, KS : 3-year-old dies, mother critical after car crashes into Derby on Monday, 24th April 2023

A 3-year-old girl has been killed and her mother is hospitalized after a car crashed into a gas pump at a Derby QuikTrip.

Police say the incident happened at 1430 N Nelson Drive at 5:18 p.m. Monday. Police said a car was driving on Meadowlark Road when they lost control and ran into a woman who was pumping gas, causing a huge explosion. The woman who was pumping gas was hospitalized.

"I heard it was a child and it's always a very sad thing when a child is involved in something like this," said Derby resident Anthony Mockry. "It just breaks your heart."
