Albany , NY : One killed in Multi Vehicle Crash on icy upstate at Route 17 on Tuesday morning, December 9th 2014

State police say one person has died in a multi-vehicle crash on an icy upstate New York highway, shutting down the westbound lanes. Troopers say Route 17's westbound side is shut down Tuesday afternoon between exits 107 and 109 just outside the Sullivan County village of Monticello from a crash that happened around 3:30 a.m. Police haven't released any other details yet. County emergency officials tell the Times Herald-Record of Middletown (http://goo.gl/uXiCfF ) that the accident involved five tractor-trailers and two cars. Authorities say two of the trucks were hauling trash that spilled onto the highway. Crews have since removed the debris. Officials say local roads were glazed with ice from freezing rain that began falling early Tuesday morning.
