Tampico, IL : Man injured after a motorcycle crash north of town on Saturday morning, October 29, 2016

A Tampico man was airlifted to a Rockford hospital after a motorcycle crash Saturday morning north of town.

The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department said Nicholas J. Smith, 29, was driving a 2003 Buell motorcycle north on Tampico Road when he apparently lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle, which entered the ditch near Fargo Road.

Smith was taken to CGH Medical Center in Sterling, before being transported to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, where he was in critical condition as of Sunday evening.

Deputies, who responded to the call at about 7:59 a.m., said no other vehicles were involved, and the crash is still under investigation.
