Sarasota, FL : Two North Port residents injured in 1-car accident on Friday afternoon, July 8, 2016
Two North Port residents were injured Friday afternoon when one blacked out while driving the car they were in and swerved off the road, hitting a pole, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Injured were Douglas L. Westdorp, 60, and Diana L. Westdorp, 56, both of North Port.
According to FHP reports, Douglas Westdorp was driving north on State Road 45 in a Kia Sedona when he experienced a medical emergency and blacked out. His car then rolled into the median and then onto the shoulder of the road. The car then struck a Comcast junction box and a traffic signal support pole.
In the accident, both suffered serious injuries and were transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
According to the FHP, alcohol was not involved in the accident.
