Los Angeles authorities say an 18-year-old motorist was killed when his pickup slammed into a power pole, causing three large electrical transformers to fall onto the truck.

Police say the cause of the crash Wednesday in Arleta is still unclear, but the pickup may have been involved in a prior crash that caused the driver to hit the pole.

The Fire Department says people in the other cars had only minor injuries.

One transformer crushed the truck cab. The driver, described only as an 18-year-old man, died at the scene.

Electricity in the area was cut and the intersection was closed as crews removed the transformers and the driver's body.

City News Service reports electricity was restored Wednesday night.
