Galax, VA : One injured in a two-vehicle accident on Route 58 off of Wendy Lane in Woodlawn on Wednesday, August 31, 2016
A two-vehicle accident on Route 58 off of Wendy Lane in Woodlawn on Wednesday at 9:40 p.m. left one man with serious injuries, according to Virginia State Trooper J.R. Alderman.
Michael Wayne Jackson, 39, of Wytheville, was driving a 2007 Honda Shadow motorcycle traveling east on 58 when a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Benjamin Horton, 23, of Galax, attempting to head west, pulled into Jackson’s path. Jackson struck the driver’s side door of the Cavalier.
Jackson was flown to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C., with what Alderman described as a severe leg injury and possibly others on his face and head.
Horton was charged with failure to yield the right of way. Intoxicants were not a factor.
Damages were estimated at $4,500 to the Cavalier and $3,000 to the Shadow.
Jackson was wearing a helmet and Horton was wearing a seatbelt. Each vehicle carried only the driver.
Also responding were Pipers Gap Rescue and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. The Galax Volunteer Fire Department was called, but not needed.
