Ocklawaha, FL : 68-year-old man suffered serious injuries when car strikes trees in Marion County on Friday morning, March 27, 2015

An Ocklawaha man was hospitalized in serious condition Friday after the vehicle he was driving ran off the roadway, smashed into trees then returned to the road.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said John Carl Blanchard was driving a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria southbound on County Road 314A near Southeast 47th Street Road when for an unknown reason the 68-year-old man’s vehicle veered off the road and traveled onto the west grassy shoulder.

The car collided with several large trees, and the impact of the collision forced the vehicle back to the southbound lane, where it stopped.

Blanchard, who was wearing his seat belt, had to be extracted from the vehicle by Marion County Fire Rescue personnel and he was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where on Friday night he was listed in serious condition.
