Beckley, WV : One northbound lane reopens after 17 vehicle accident on I-77 on Thursday, 22nd March 2018
Both northbound lanes of Interstate 77 were closed early Thursday evening between mile markers 47 and 50 due to multiple vehicle accidents because of slick road conditions.
Jan-Care Director Paul Seamann told The Register-Herald the accidents involved 17 vehicles including both tractor-trailers and passenger cars. He reported some of the passenger vehicles ended up under the tractor-trailers.
Seamann said Jan-Care had 11 ambulances on the scene and crews transported eight individuals to a local hospital for treatment.
Turnpike control dispatchers reported emergency crews are currently trying to clear the vehicle accidents that have the road shut down near the North Beckley exit.
At 6:45 p.m., dispatchers reported one northbound lane was reopened for traffic.
Dispatchers said there is no word on when both lanes would reopen, but drivers are urged to use caution if they plan on traveling nearby.
