North Platte, NE : Drunken man arrested at scene of car accident on Monday, February 6th 2017
A man was arrested Monday night after police found him intoxicated and trying to push his car after an accident.
At 10:50 p.m., North Platte police responded to the one-vehicle accident at A Street and Buffalo Bill Avenue, said Investigator John Deal.
“A witness reported that a pickup had struck a tree and the driver was leaving the scene,” he said.
The responding officer found the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup near Carr and Anna avenues, and a man, 35, attempting to push it down the street. The officer spoke with the man, who was uninjured but showed signs of intoxication, Deal said.
The man, who had a 15-year driver’s license suspension, failed a breath test. In the pickup, officers found marijuana pipes and diazepam, a controlled substance for which the man had no prescription.
The man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, fourth offense; driving under suspension; possession of a controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; and leaving the scene of an accident, Deal said.
Police determined the man was likely traveling west on A Street when he ran the stop sign at Buffalo, left the roadway and struck a street sign and tree on the northwest side of the intersection, Deal said. It was unknown whether the man was wearing a seat belt.
