Sacramento, CA : 77-year-old great-grandmother killed on her way to church on Tuesday, 20th November 2018

A family is preparing for their first holiday season without their 77-year-old great-grandmother, who was killed walking to church in California, police said.

Maria Reynoso — the matriarch of her family — had nine children, 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.Family members said Reynoso attended Mass every morning at 7:30 a.m.

It was on her walk to a Nov. 13 Mass that Reynoso was struck, police said.

Surveillance video shows Reynoso attempting to cross the street when police said Brandon Rosendo Mazariego, 25, hit her. Police said he did not stop and kept driving.

Reynoso was admitted to a nearby hospital, where she later died.

Mazariego, who is on probation for burglary and had a criminal record as well as a suspended license, confessed to the hit-and-run during an interrogation, police said.
