Kissimmee ,FL : 5 days old boy and family were killed after car crashed into a retention pond in osceola County on Wednesday , December 24th 2014
A 5-day-old baby boy, a 4-year-old girl and their parents were identified Wednesday as the four people killed Tuesday after a car crashed into a retention pond behind Valencia College's Osceola County campus.
The four victims were:
Ulysses G. Montero, 25, of Miami
Julie M. Lopez-Elias, 24, of Kissimmee
Julissa M. Montero, 4, of Kissimmee
Dlias D. Montero, 5 days old, of Kissimmee
Kissimmee police arrived at the scene Tuesday to find the car submerged in the pond. Police quickly asked local diver Thomas Sergent for help, telling him four people were trapped inside the car.
"I threw on the gear, went down, and the first thing that I saw were the children's toys floating," Sergent said.
Left behind after the crash was 6-year-old Ulysses Montero Jr., who was not in the car with the rest of his family. He is being taken care of by other family members, who have set up a GoFundMe page to help them pay for the cost of four funerals.
Friends and family members grieved Wednesday for their loved ones whose lives were cut short.
"We were waiting for today to meet the baby," said Berlice Romero, Julie Lopez-Elias's stepsister. "It's hard. It's really hard. We aren't even together, because it's so sad."
Investigators said they were working with witnesses like Robert Gotting, who saw the car moments before it crashed, to figure out exactly what happened.
"The black car, it almost collided with several cars," said Gotting, who did not see the actual crash. "It looked like there was some kind of altercation going on in the car."
Former neighbors said law enforcement officers were frequently called to the family's house after things got Heated
