NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI : A mother of three from Johnston was among two people killed in a rollover crash on Wednesday, June 14, 2017
North Smithfield, Rhode Island
A mother of three from Johnston was among two people killed in a rollover crash on Route 146 early yesterday morning – a crash in which excessive speed may have been a factor, according to the state police.
Karissa Harrison, 27, and Henry Feliz, 30, of Providence, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to State Police Capt. Matthew Moynihan.
A third victim was transported by North Smithfield Rescue to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries police described as serious. His identity has not yet been released.
Moynihan said all three victims were ejected from the vehicle and accident reconstruction specialists were still trying to figure out who was driving the dark-colored sedan.
“None of the occupants was wearing a seatbelt,” according to a state police statement. “Speed appears to be a factor.”
The vehicle was heading north near the Pound Hill Road ramp when it veered off the road and onto the grassy median at about 2:10 a.m. Moynahan said the vehicle struck a guardrail and rolled over several times.
Harrison, who also went by the name “Sissy,” had three children and graduated from Johnston High School. Friends and relatives began posting expressions of grief and disbelief shortly after news of her death was reported.
“Sissy look what you left behind,” Barbara Harrison posted above a pair of photographs, one of Harrison wearing a graduation cap and three young children. “Why Sissy Why?”
Laura Kirk, a spokeswoman for the state police, said the cause of the crash remains under investigation by troopers from the Rhode Island State Police Accident Reconstruction Team.
Investigators are looking for anyone who may have seen the crash.
