Council Bluffs, IL: Arkansas man, 68, dies in motorcycle crash on Interstate 29 in Council Bluffs on Sunday, August 2nd 2015

An Arkansas man died Sunday in a motorcycle crash that closed northbound Interstate 29 in Council Bluffs for nearly four hours.Richard Gardial, 68, of Hot Springs was pronounced dead at the scene near the Avenue G overpass and 37th Street, according to Sgt. Mark Stuart of the Council Bluffs Police Department. Investigators determined that while Gardial was northbound on I-29 with a group of other motorcyclists, he failed to negotiate a curve, and struck a guardrail.When Gardial was thrown from the motorcycle it continued on the roadway before hitting the driver’s side of a northbound vehicle driven by Cheryl Gough. No injuries were reported in that vehicle.Police and troopers from the Iowa State Patrol diverted traffic from northbound I-29 beginning about 9:20 a.m. The accident remains under investigation.
