Cape Coral, FL : Joel Scott Nichols, 27, killed in hit-and-run crash on Pine Island Road on Sunday, February 1, 2015

A tip led police to a man suspected a hit-and-run that killed a Cape Coral bicyclist Sunday night.

Timothy Wayne Turner, 48, was arrested Monday night, according to Detective Sgt. Dana Coston, a Cape Coral police spokesman. Police made the announcement at a press conference after finding Turner's truck, which was parked at his residence. While police were examining the truck, Turner came out of his house and surrendered, Coston said.

Turner is charged with leaving the scene involving death.

Police say he hit and killed Joel Scott Nichols, 27, of Cape Coral, in the 1300 block of Pine Island Road.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. Sunday, according to police, "but the victim was not discovered until after 7 a.m., likely due to poor lighting in the area and the location where the deceased came to rest."

The truck veered right toward the shoulder and struck the back of Nichols' bicycle, police say.
