RICHMOND, CA : Lane-splitters hurt in crash in westbound Interstate 80 lanes west of Central Avenue on Monday, 25th November, 2019
California Highway Patrol investigators were asking for the public’s help after a hit-and-run collision that sent a motorcyclist and a passenger to a hospital, authorities said Monday.
Around 7 a.m., CHP officers responded to reports of the collision in westbound Interstate 80 lanes west of Central Avenue. When they arrived and found well-meaning drivers had blocked all lanes out of concern for safety.
Officers soon learned that a male adult motorcyclist and a female adult passenger were splitting the roadway’s Nos. 1 and 2 lanes at about 35 mph when a white Toyota Prius changed lanes suddenly in front of them.
The motorcycle swerved right, crashing into the back of a white Toyota Tundra pickup truck and sending the rider and passenger into the roadway. Seconds later, a truck with a trailer hit the two, then drove away without stopping, the CHP said.
