Galien, MI : IU South Bend professor killed in car crash on U.S. 12 near Sage Road on Thursday morning, February 11, 2016

A local professor was killed in a Berrien County car crash Thursday morning.

Police say 55-year-old LuAnn Woodrick of Galien was driving east on U.S. 12, and 52-year-old Jeffrey Norman of Granger was driving westbound.

Authorities believe one of the cars crossed the center line around 6:47 a.m., leading them to hit head-on.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their cars, and both were taken to the hospital.

Norman was treated for minor injuries, but Woodrick was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to a student we spoke with, Woodrick was a professor in the Indiana University South Bend School of Nursing. According to the school's website, Woodrick taught the Fundamentals of Nursing (lecture, lab and clinical), Simulation, and Management and Capstone clinical.

The Berrien County Sheriff's Department is investigating the crash.
