Man identified in fatal Coral Lakes motorcycle crash

Cape Coral police are investigating a fatal crash involving a van and a motorcycle Friday night.

It happened near Coral Lakes Boulevard and Del Prado Boulevard at around 8:10 p.m.

Police officials say the motorcyclist - later identified as 23-year-old Brian Giel - was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed Giel was going south on Del Prado Boulevad approaching Coral Lakes Boulevard. At the same time, a van was turning west into Coral Lakes.

According to a report, the driver of the van claims there were no lights approaching the intersection when she began to turn.

The van struck the motorcycle on the left side. Giel was ejected from the bike, landed in the roadway and hit his head on the curb.

Officials say the driver of the van showed no signs of impairment.

This is the second Cape Coral traffic fatality this year.
