Elpaso County , CO : Driver killed in Two Vehicle crash along I-10 near Eastlake Boulevard on Saturday night, January 3rd 2015

The driver of a semitruck traveling east along Interstate 10 near Eastlake Boulevard was killed in a two-vehicle accident at about 10 p.m. Saturday, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

A Honda Civic and a semitruck were involved in the accident, according to Sheriff's officials.

According to the preliminary investigation, the Honda, which was also traveling east along Interstate 10, lost control, veered to the left and hit the railing. That caused the car to spin back onto Interstate 10. Speed is a contributing factor in the wreck, officials said.

The semitruck's driver was transported to a local hospital where he died of his injuries. The passenger in the semitruck was also taken to a hospital for what were described as non-life-threatening injuries. Neither the driver nor the passenger in the Honda were injured.

The investigation continues. Interstate 10 was closed in this area for several hours because of the accident.
