Volusia County, FL : 71-year-old motorcyclist killed in Volusia County crash on State Road 415 near Reed Ellis Road on Saturday, 27th April 2019
A 71-year-old man was killed in Volusia County Saturday after Florida Highway Patrol troopers said he drove his motorcycle into the opposite lanes and was struck by two oncoming cars, according to a news release.
The crash happened about 4:15 p.m. on State Road 415 near Reed Ellis Road.
The man, identified by FHP as Michael Metts, of New Smyrna Beach, was traveling north on SR 415 on a 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle when FHP said he “failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway” and drove over a grassy median and into the southbound lanes.
Mett was struck by a Hyundai and a Nissan traveling south, according to FHP.
Both vehicle drivers suffered minor injuries, authorities said. The Nissan driver, 72-year-old Barbara Alberto, of New York, was taken to Advent Health hospital. The other driver, Kimberly Rose, 57, of Oviedo, was not taken to a hospital, the release shows.
The crash remains under investigation, FHP said.
