Medina, OH : Lorain County woman and Huron County woman killed in a two-vehicle crash on state Route 83 in Medina County on Sunday, April 19, 2015
A Wakeman woman and an Elyria woman died Sunday night when they were ejected from their vehicle in a crash at state Route 83 and West Smith Road.
Jessica Shortland, 25, of Wakeman, and Mary R. Curney, 36, of Elyria, were killed when the elderly driver of another vehicle failed to yield at a stop sign just before 10 p.m. and struck a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser that Shortland was driving, according to the Medina post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Shortland and Curney were transported to Medina Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were transported to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center with serious injuries. Houston Loyd, 84, of Wellington, was driving a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country. His passenger was Martha M. Loyd, 80, also of Wellington.
Shortland and Curney’s vehicle rolled several times in the crash, ejecting both women. The Loyds’ vehicle went off the west side of the road and came to rest in a field.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Medina County Sheriff’s Office and Litchfield Fire and EMS.
The crash remains under investigation.
