Liberty, N.C : Children injured in wreck with rig on Saturday night, March 18, 2017
An accident involving an SUV and an 18- wheeler Saturday night resulted in injuries to three small children, according to a press release from the Liberty Police Department.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. the Liberty Police Department, the N.C. Highway Patrol, the patrol’s Motor Carrier Enforcement, the Liberty Fire Department and Randolph County EMS responded to the scene of an accident involving an 18-wheel transfer truck and a GMC SUV at the intersection of Greensboro Street and Swannanoa Avenue.
The SUV was struck by the tractor-trailer causing the SUV to overturn. Three small children riding in the SUV were injured and transported to Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro and Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem.
The highway patrol sent accident reconstruction specialists to assist the Liberty Police Department in its investigation.
The children’s conditions were not known Sunday morning.
The release said charges may be filed against the truck driver, who is not suspected of being impaired, after a detailed investigation has been completed.
An updated release will be provided when more information becomes available, Liberty Police Chief David Semrad said Sunday.
