Monessen,PA :Two injured in Route 366 crash in Washington Twp on May,Monday 21th 2018
Route 366 in Washington Township was closed for about an hour in both directions after a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon.
Two people were injured in the crash, which happened just after 3 p.m. near the Stallard Garden Center.
A garden center truck and a sport-utility vehicle collided head on when the SUV veered into the middle of the road, according to Natalie Schweizer, who was traveling behind the SUV.
“I don't think he was speeding. I truly think he wasn't paying attention,” said Schweizer of Latrobe, who works in Natrona Heights and was heading home. “I saw him veer. I hit my brakes, thinking, ‘Oh my.' I didn't even see (the garden center truck) at first.”
Bob Stallard, 60, of Murrysville identified the driver of the garden center truck as his brother, Ken, 56, of Washington Township.
Both drivers were flown via medical helicopters to Pittsburgh-area hospitals, Bob Stallard said.
Stallard said workers at the garden center had just finished work at 3 p.m. when the crash happened.
“We heard ‘kaboom,' ” he said. “We thought his tailgate fell off his truck.”
The Stallards' father, Robert, 82, of Murrysville, said he spoke with Ken while his son was waiting to be taken to the hospital.
“Kenny said the other guy ... came into his lane,” the elder Stallard said. “There was no way of avoiding him.”
Dan Pilon, who lives along Route 366 near the crash scene, said he heard the collision.
“It sounded like an explosion more than a car accident,” he said.
