Johnstown, PA : Robert Shroyer, 42, dead in a motorcycle accident in Ferndale Borough early Wednesday, March 22, 2017
A Johnstown man was pronounced dead at the scene of a motorcycle accident in Ferndale Borough early Wednesday.
Robert Shroyer, 42, wrecked his bike on Route 403 just over the city line near the Bridge Street bridge connecting Ferndale to Johnstown. The accident was reported at 2:40 a.m.
“The 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling southbound when it appeared the operator lost control around the slight curve and the motorcycle went off the roadway, hit gravel and overturned,” Cambria County Coroner Jeffrey Lees said.
Shroyer, who was not wearing a helmet, died of blunt force trauma to the head and neck, according to Lees.
It was the county’s first fatal motorcycle accident of the year.
Lees cautioned riders to not bring out their motorcycles yet because gravel and ant-skid materials remain on the roads from the winter.
“It’s way too early to be driving motorcycles on the road,” Lees said. “It’s an extremely dangerous situation to be driving a motorcycle on the road at this time of year.”
A toxicology report on Shroyer is pending.
Police from Ferndale, Upper Yoder Township and Johnstown responded to the call. West Hills Regional Fire Department and Upper Yoder Township Volunteer Fire Company also were on scene.
