Fort Wayne, IN : A moped rider was critically injured on Wednesday, June 21, 2017

A moped rider was critically injured Wednesday afternoon when his vehicle collided with a car at Third and Oakland streets, Fort Wayne police said.

Police said the moped was traveling south on Oakland about 2:40 p.m. when it failed to yield the right of way to a car traveling east on Third.

Firefighters freed the victim from underneath the car, and he was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said. They said the car's driver, although not injured, was also taken to a local hospital after becoming distraught because of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by city police and the Allen County prosecutor's office.
