A New Orleans man died Sunday when the SUV he was riding in ran off Interstate 10 near La. 415 just west of Port Allen, crossed the median and rolled over several times in the opposite lanes before coming to a stop on the La. 415 entrance ramp, State Police said.
The man, Reese D. Randolph, 22, was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer, a State Police spokesman, said.
The accident occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Sandifer said.
The driver of the 2005 Nissan Xterra, Michael A. Naquin, 18, of New Orleans, was hospitalized as were the other three people inside the SUV, Sandifer said. Naquin had serious injuries, while the other three passengers had minor to moderate injuries.
Naquin, Randolph and two others were not wearing their seat belts, Sandifer said.
Troopers do not suspect Naquin was impaired, but a blood sample was taken. It will be tested at the State Police Crime Lab, Sandifer said.
The accident remains under investigation and an arrest may be made later, Sandifer said.
