Hannibal, MO : Van crash injures 6 Kansas residents on Saturday, March 25th 2017
Two adults and four children from Garden City, Kan., were injured in a van crash at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, March 25, in rural Shelby County, Mo.
The driver, Jose M. Miranda-Gomez, 39, suffered moderate injuries. His five passengers had minor injuries. All six went by Monroe City ambulances to Hannibal Regional Hospital.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported Miranda-Gomez was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Uplander van on U.S. 36 a half mile east of Hunnewell, Mo.
Officers said the van went off the right side of the highway and hit a field entrance and road sign before stopping in a ditch.
Injured passengers were Hayde B. Flores-Cortez, 38; Alexander Miranda, 12; Andrew Miranda, 7; Hayde B. Miranda, 11; and Jose M. Miranda, 14. Officers said the adults and children ages 12 and 14 were using safety devices. The 7-year-old child was not, and it was unknown if the 11-year-old was using a safety device.
The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Marion County Sheriff's Department, Monroe County Sheriff's Department and Monroe City Fire Department.
