Newport News, VA : Traffic backup eases after I-64 crash near Denbigh Boulevard on Friday, 9th September 2016

Traffic is now backed up between mile markers 247 (Yorktown Road) and 250 (Fort Eustis).

Both eastbound lanes are open.

VDOT is planning to again close the lanes at 10 p.m. to fix the damaged overhead sign. That closure is expected to last 45 minutes.

Vehicles will be detoured along Fort Eustis Boulevard, around the closure.

5 p.m. update: Both eastbound lanes have reopened, although a seven-mile backup still exists.

Drivers headed east on I-64 are advised to take alternate routes because of an 11-mile back-up, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

At 3:30 p.m., an overhead sign with damage caused transportation officials to close both eastbound lanes near Denbigh Boulevard in Newport News, VDOT spokesman Dave Forster said in a news release.
