LORE CITY, OH : Alleged stolen Guernsey County car found crashed into embankment on Monday, November 28th, 2016
The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Cambridge post is investigating a one-vehicle crash on Wintergreen Road Monday night involving a female motorist who allegedly reported the vehicle as stolen after the accident.
Authorities had not released the name of the female driver as of press time today.
The woman reportedly traveled to a nearby business and reported the vehicle, a white Dodge Charger, was stolen to its owner, who then alerted authorities.
But, witnesses reportedly place the woman inside the vehicle following the accident.
Alcohol is reportedly suspected as a factor in the crash.
According to reports, the owner of the vehicle called the Guernsey County Sheriff's Office at 7:27 p.m. reporting he loaned his vehicle to a female friend and it was stolen from the parking lot at a Wintergreen Road business.
The caller advised the female told him she left the engine running as she was only going inside the business for a minute and when she exited the tavern, the car was gone.
A subsequent caller reported the vehicle was crashed into an embankment along Wintergreen Road (Route 285) north of the business.
A third caller reported stopping at the accident scene and speaking with a female motorist who was inside the crashed Charger. The caller advised the woman gave them a same first name as the friend to whom the owner loaned the car.
A sheriff's deputy dispatched to take the stolen vehicle report then alerted his dispatcher that the vehicle was not stolen.
No charges had been filed against the female driver as of press time today.
The report did not indicate if she sustained any injuries. The accident remained under investigation by the highway patrol.
