Elkhart, IN : Two vehicle crash injures multiple people in Elkhart Monday, 1st January 2024

One person is dead after a Monday morning crash that happened in Elkhart.

Police have identified him as Braxton Smith, 22, of Bristol, IN.

Police say an off-duty Elkhart Police officer called the Elkhart City 911 Communication Center around 12:14 a.m. to report seeing a car travelling at a high rate of speed near Elkhart High School. He then reported that the vehicle had crashed with another vehicle at the intersection of California Road and N. Nappanee Street.
