St. Matthews, SC : Ga. woman standing on I-26 median in SC killed by car on Thursday, November 27, 2014
Saint Matthews, South Carolina
Authorities say a driver trying to avoid a car stopped in the left lane of Interstate 26 east in Calhoun County struck and killed a woman from Savannah, Georgia, standing in the median.
State troopers said the wreck happened around 12:30 a.m. Thursday near mile marker 137.
Authorities say three people were in the median near the stopped car when the driver tried to avoid a crash by swerving off the highway.
The Calhoun County Coroner's Office says 70-year-old Shirley Davis was struck and killed. The other two people weren't injured.
Troopers say the driver didn't stop after hitting Davis, but was found a short time later. Authorities plan to charge him with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, but not in the collision that killed the pedestrian.
