Elkton,MD : Two killed in fiery collision on April, sunday 23th 2017
Two people were killed late Sunday night in a fiery crash on a highway near Elkton, marking the fourth fatal collision on Cecil County roads this month, according to Maryland State Police.
As of Monday morning, MSP investigators were awaiting positive identification of the two victims — both of them drivers and the sole occupants of their respective vehicles, which crashed head-on about 11 p.m. on Telegraph Road (Route 273) near Little Elk Creek Road, north of Elkton, police reported.
Witnesses told investigators that they saw a Dodge Charger traveling in the westbound lane of Telegraph Road at a “high rate of speed,” as it frequently crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane to pass vehicles, police said. While heading west in the eastbound lane, the Dodge Charger crashed head-on into an eastbound Chevrolet Blazer, prompting witnesses to call 911, police added.
“Upon their (troopers') arrival, the two vehicles were fully engulfed in flames,” an MSP spokesman said.
The two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police officials, who also reported that their names will not be released until they can be positively identified and troopers can then make death notifications to their next-of-kin.
