FLORENCE, AL : Tractor-tractor accident causes traffic issues on Friday, 18th May 2018
It took crews more than seven hours to get a wreck cleaned up and the eastern end of Veterans Drive back open Friday.
“It was a mess. We’re lucky nobody was hurt,” said Fire Battalion Chief Dennis Brown. “The driver wasn’t hurt and thank goodness there wasn’t any other traffic there when it happened.”
Firefighters said the eastern portion of Veterans Drive, near the intersection of Smith Street, was closed to traffic at 7:18 a.m. until the truck was removed sometime after 2 p.m.
The tractor-trailer truck hauling scrap metal overturned while trying to turn onto Veterans Drive from Cox Creek Parkway.
The truck, which was going west, flipped on its side and ended up in the eastbound lane.
Emergency personnel at the scene said none of the load spilled, and only a little oil was leaked from the truck. It was cleaned up by members of the Florence Fire Department.
The wreck caused travel issues as Cox Creek Parkway was closed at Huntsville Road, forcing people detour down Huntsville Road.
