WESTLAKE, LA : A Westlake man died in a crash on April, Thursday 20th 2017
A Westlake man died Thursday afternoon when the car he was a passenger in collided with a truck on U.S. 171 in Moss Bluff, Louisiana State Police said.
Leighton Harold Chene, 59, died when he was ejected from the vehicle in the crash. He was transported to a Lake Charles hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Sgt. James Anderson, Troop D spokesman.
The two-vehicle crash happened about 1 p.m. on U.S. 171, just north of Joe Miller Road.
The investigation showed that a truck, driven by Kyle Bunch, 73, traveled into the northbound, inside lane of U.S. 171 "by improperly crossing the solid white line separating the merging lane from the main lane of travel," said Sgt. James Anderson, Troop D spokesman. It hit the car driven by Annalee Chene, 35, of Moss Bluff, causing it to roll onto its side, skid into a ditch and roll again.
Leighton Chene, who died in the crash, was a passenger in Annalee Chene's car.
Annalee Chene was transported to a Lake Charles hospital with minor injuries. Bunch and a passenger in the truck were not injured.
Bunch was cited for improper lane usage. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but a routine toxicology sample was obtained from each of the drivers and will be submitted for analysis, Anderson said.
The crash remains under investigation and additional charges are possible.
Troop D has investigated seven fatal crashes, resulting in 10 deaths, so far in 2017.
