A Beaumont police officer was hurt on Tuesday when his parked cruiser was struck by a pickup truck, according to information from the department.

Officers blocked off a section of Delaware on Tuesday morning while investigating a major hit-and-run accident.

An officer used his cruiser to keep traffic a way from the crash scene, BPD reported.

The driver of a blue Dodge pickup truck failed to yield to the stopped cruiser and hit the car with the officer still inside, the department reported.

The officer was taken to Baptist Hospital, where he was treated and released for lower back injuries.

The driver of the pickup, Anthony Thornton, 21, of Beaumont, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, possession of marijuana and possession of Codeine, the department reported.
