Corpus Christi, TX : Two A&M-Kingsville students die in Refugio County crash on Saturday, February 25th 2017

Two people were killed when a vehicle ran off the roadway and into the San Antonio River about 20 miles north of Refugio, officials said.

The crash happened about 2:10 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 77, a Texas Department of Public Safety news release states.

A Chevrolet Cruze passenger car was northbound on Highway 77 when it veered off the roadway just before the San Antonio River Bridge and crashed into the river.

Witnesses saw the car leave the road and called authorities, according to the Victoria Advocate.

A dive team was dispatched to the river and located the car. Inside were two Texas A&M-Kingsville students, officials said.

The passenger was identified Sunday as 19-year-old Oscar Felipe Fuentes in the news release. The driver is not being identified until his family is notified.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
