Charlotte, NC : One person died after a crash on Lancaster Highway in Ballantyne on Monday morning, December 7, 2015

A crash that left one person dead in Ballantyne Monday morning may have happened hours before police were called.

Police say it appears the vehicle, a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, was traveling south on Lancaster Highway when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree. The Chevrolet was found in the woods off a sharp bend. The driver, later identified as 48-year-old Andre Caprell Brown, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead on scene by Medic.

According to police, the wreck was called in around 7:15 a.m. on Lancaster Highway at Cardinal Woods Drive. Neighbors said they heard a crash about six hours prior, captain Rod Golding said.

“Based on what the neighbors are telling us, they heard a crash or impact sometime after midnight, one in the morning, something in that time frame, but unfortunately no one called,” Golding said.

Golding said based on the damage to the SUV, he was uncertain that someone could have survived the crash. Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

Police say no one else was in the vehicle.
