New Roads, LA : 2 die in crash in Pointe Coupee Parish on Saturday afternoon, November 12, 2016

Impairment and speed were suspected to be factors in a crash that left two people dead Saturday afternoon (Nov. 12) in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana State Police said. State police, in a news release, identified the victims as motorist Christopher Armster, 21, and his passenger, James Guidry, 34, both of Morganza.

Armster was driving a Honda Accord at a high rate of speed south on Louisiana 1 shortly before 3 p.m. when the car hit the rear of an 18-wheeler, State Police said. Armster and Guidry were not wearing seatbelts and died at the scene, police said.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, Roberto Mendosa, 39, of Lakeland, was not injured.

A toxicology sample will be taken from each driver for analysis, State Police said.
