La Pine , OR : 67- Years old man died and other Driver injured in a head-on crash on Monday Evening , December 15th 2014
A Lake Oswego man died in a head-on crash Monday morning along a stretch of Highway 97 covered in packed snow and ice, Oregon State Police said.
The other driver involved was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Officials said Larry Gardner, 67, of Lake Oswego, was driving south on the highway near La Pine when around 5:20 a.m. Monday he lost control of his silver Nissan Sentra and slid into the northbound lane.
The Nissan collided head-on with a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Cassy Grant, 26, of Bend.
Gardner was pronounced dead at the scene. Grant was taken to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend with minor injuries. Officials said both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
A third driver, Alexander Slaven, 28, of La Pine, crashed into the back of Grant’s Jeep shortly after the head-on collision. Slaven later told police that he thought his 2012 Ford Fusion had not made contact with the Jeep and he continued on to work. After arriving he noticed some damage and called police.
