Two Austin High School juniors were killed Friday morning in a crash, school officials said.A third teen was injured in the crash.
The crash was reported around 7 a.m. on Jack Morgan Road, just north of State Road 256 near Austin, police said.
Investigators said Jacob Justice, 18, was driving south on Jack Morgan Road in a 2005 Cadillac when the vehicle went off the road, flipped and hit several wooden fence poles.
Police said Justice, 18, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle.
Cameron Prestegui, 16, who was wearing a seat belt, was the front-seat passenger, police said.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
A 17-year-old back-seat passenger, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Scott County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
School officials said they have several counselors on hand to assist students.
Teachers and students alike are in mourning. But Superintendent Robert Anderson said they will get through it.
“They're a strong, resilient bunch of kids and I would say just pray for them because they're good kids and they'll get through this,” Anderson said.
He said the news of the loss quickly spread at the school.
“They know the boys or they know the boys sister or you know everybody knows somebody so you know the ripple effect it affects a lot of people,” Anderson said.
Indiana State Police are leading the investigation into this crash and they say right now, they are still trying to figure out what exactly caused the car to leave the road.
