Topeka, KS : Rantoul man killed Monday in Franklin County crash on Monday, November 14th 2016
One person was killed and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning in Franklin County, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 11:15 a.m. Monday on K-68 highway, about 2 miles east of Ottawa.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a 2004 Ford Explorer that was eastbound on K-68 drifted into the westbound lane of traffic.
A 1997 Nissan pickup truck that was westbound on K-68 then went into the eastbound lane to avoid striking the oncoming Explorer.
The patrol said the Explorer then “abruptly” merged back into the eastbound lane of travel, striking the Nissan.
The driver of the Nissan, identified as William Scott Hankins, 25, of Rantoul, was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said Hankins wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
The Explorer’s driver, Damon Michael Stroud, 21, of Lawrence, was injured and was taken to Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa. The patrol said it wasn’t known whether Stroud was wearing a seat belt.
