Salida, CO : Poncha Springs couple injured in wreck on U.S. 50 on Monday, August 15, 2016
A single-car rollover wreck injured two people and closed U.S. 50 in both directions for approximately 45 minutes at about 5:35 p.m. Monday, Cpl. Kris Galyean with the Colorado State Patrol said.
Driver Wiley Middleton, 81, and his wife Rose, 79, both of Poncha Springs, were traveling westbound on U.S. 50 near mile marker 235, close to the Wellsville turn-off, when their vehicle missed the curve and drove off the road. Wiley Middleton was driving a 2015 Toyota Highlander.
Galyean said the Toyota struck an embankment, rolling 1½ times before it came to a stop in the middle of the road.
Both Middletons were transported to Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Galyean said the crash was caused by a medical condition.
Wiley Middleton was not cited.
