Arlington, OR : One dead and another in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near Arlington on Sunday morning, May 1, 2016
One is dead and another in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near Arlington, according to state police.
Police responded Sunday morning around 4:30 a.m. to the wreck, near milepost 132, officials said. Justin Matthew Flowers, 24, of Portland, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle westbound, authorities said, when for unknown reasons he left the roadway and crashed through the guardrail on the north side of the freeway.
Flowers was taken by Life Flight to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Washington, and he died on the way, according to state police. A passenger, Hayden Michael Swanson, 23, of Portland, was taken to OHSU Hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition, officials said.
Flowers and Swanson were not using seat belts at the time of the crash and were ejected from the vehicle, investigators found. Authorities suspect speed and fatigue were factors in the crash.
