A 3-year-old girl was killed and three others were injured in a three-vehicle accident Tuesday morning in Liberty Township.
The deceased’s identity has not yet been released.
Kane-based state police said that at 8:52 a.m., a car driven by Heather L. Coon, 27, of Roulette, was traveling north on Route 155 near Birch Run Road, when it stopped in the northbound lane to make a left turn to a residence on Route 155. A car driven by Amy R. Kephart, 32, of Port Allegany, was also traveling north behind Coon’s car and failed to stop, hitting the rear of Coon’s vehicle.
Due to the impact, Coon’s car traveled into the southbound lane and into the path of a sport-utility vehicle driven by Patricia J. Williams, 52, of Eldred, which struck the car. Coon’s car came to rest in the southbound lane facing south, Williams’ SUV continued south before coming to rest off the west side of the road and Kephart’s car came to rest facing north in the northbound lane, according to police.
Police reported that a 3-year-old passenger in Coon’s car died as a result of her injuries, and all three drivers were transported from the scene for treatment of injuries. Police did not say how serious the motorists’ injuries were or where they were being treated.
There was no word Tuesday night as to whether charges would be filed in the crash. Several agencies assisted at the scene, including the Port Allegany, Eldred Borough and Eldred Township fire departments; ambulances from Coudersport, Roulette, Eldred borough, Otto Township and Olean, N.Y.; and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
