MUNCIE, IN : Deal struck in fatal crash case on Sunday, February 5th 2017
A western Indiana man charged in a fatal traffic accident that killed two Muncie sisters has reached a deal with prosecutors.
Authorities said Ethan N. Lee, 20, was driving nearly 90 miles per hour when his pickup truck struck a building in his hometown of Cayuga, a few miles east of the Illinois border.
Killed in the crash were Lee’s three passengers: sisters Annie Clark, 18, and Caroline Clark, 16, both students at Cowan Junior-Senior High School, and Braeden Hollowell, 17, of Cayuga.
In January 2016, a Vermillion County grand jury indicted Lee on three counts of reckless homicide, a Level 5 felony carrying up to six years in prison, and single counts of criminal recklessness, reckless driving and false informing.
Lee’s trial was most recently set for Feb. 20, but this past week, a plea agreement was filed in the case.
Terms of the deal were not released, but a hearing — at which Lee would presumably plead guilty to one or more charges — is scheduled for Feb. 17.
Attorneys in the case were asked to provide Judge Bruce Stengel with “a breakdown of the dates and how many days the defendant shall spend in the Vermillion County jail as a condition of his probation.”
Lee was released from custody the day of his indictment after posting a $15,000 bond.
